I present to you a video depicting classic dog behaviors showing that they are uncomfortable interacting with a child. Many people miss these signs. These signals can be precursors to a bite.
One of our standard questions we ask adopters with kids during our application process is, “What boundaries do you set for your kids around dogs?” Sometimes parents can react offput by that question. Today’s potential adopter told us they want their child to “occasionally” be able to sit on the dog
Our goal is always to prevent kids from getting bit and to keep dogs from having bite records. 77% of dog bites to children happen with a family or friend’s dog. We can do better. Let’s learn the body language that dogs give when they are uncomfortable.
